Week 9 (Action Research 2)

I’ve had to alter the detour narrative a touch to make it work digital functionality and interactivity within animate. I wasn’t happy with the auto play mode of some frames as it didn’t give the reader a choice in how long they wanted to view each page, which is pretty much the reasoning behind my study, where the reader must have the choice and some level of control over their viewing. In this case, I’ve altered it so each page is static (adding the stop(); function) until the user choose to proceed to the next one (including an arrow button which progresses to the next page upon click). That way they can take their time to read the poem, and – if all goes well – click on little animated elements within the page.

updated detour narrative frames for animate

With the coding originally supplied by Scott for the original detour narrative in frames A, B1, B2 & C, I was able to use the code logic to make the rest of the document function. I also had to add 2 extra scenes/frames to the A section as the interactivity didn’t start until the third stanza (para), as there were 3 stanzas before a branch occurred in the narrative. I also added the G frame as I felt it needed a final page that said “The End”, which gave an option to return to the beginning and start again.

So essentially my story (prose) now contains 12 scenes/frames with up to 6 story lines.

I still need to add more code for my goToAndPlay functions plus the mouse over actions to allow for navigational interactivity, so the page follows the cursor around. I’ll need guidance for this again I think, but what I’d like to do before then is get some scenery going.
